MOMENT 1 · The call by the lake
An invitation beside the nets.
Jesus walks along the Lake of Galilee and finds Peter and Andrew working with their nets. He invites them to follow him. Later he also calls James and John. In the middle of their daily work, these fishermen receive an invitation that changes their path.
Following Jesus is learning with him, step by step.

MOMENT 2 · The meeting with Matthew
There is also a place for you.
In another encounter, Jesus sees Matthew sitting in the place where he collects taxes. He invites him to follow him, and Matthew stands up. Then, Jesus shares the table with tax collectors and other people who are rejected by many. His closeness opens the door to a new beginning.
We can welcome people without reducing them to a label.

MOMENT 3 · Learn together
A community on the way.
Jesus calls his disciples to be with him and chooses twelve to send them to announce the good news. They learn by listening to him and observing how he treats people. They don't understand everything immediately: the path also includes questions, mistakes and new opportunities.
Learning together helps us to listen, serve and grow.

FOUR VOICES, ONE STORY
Return to the Gospels.
The Gospels tell of different encounters and calls. This synthesis brings them together as a stage of formation; it does not state that all of them happened on the same day.
The links open the New International Version (NIV) in Bible Gateway. The texts of this website are original narratives and reflections; they are not literal quotes from that translation.
