MOMENT 1 · Next to the well
A conversation that opens doors.
Tired of the journey, Jesus sits down next to a well in Samaria. A woman comes to fetch water and he asks her for a drink. The conversation crosses barriers between their peoples and raises questions about life and faith. Jesus speaks of living water and reveals himself as the Messiah.
Listening with respect can bring us closer to those who seem different.

MOMENT 2 · Good news to share
Come and meet him.
The woman leaves her jug and returns to the village. She tells others about her encounter and invites other people to meet Jesus. People go out to see him. A conversation by the well becomes an invitation that reaches more people.
We can share what we discover and invite others to ask questions.

MOMENT 3 · Jesus receives the children
There is room for children, too.
In another encounter, some people bring children to Jesus so that he can bless them. The disciples try to prevent it, but Jesus asks them to let them approach. He receives them, hugs them and blesses them. The little ones have a place next to him.
Welcoming also means leaving space and paying attention.

TO SAVE IN THE HEART
Listening and welcoming are concrete ways to show love.
FOUR VOICES, ONE STORY
Return to the Gospels.
The conversation with the Samaritan woman belongs to John 4. The reception of the children appears in the synoptic Gospels. They are two different encounters, united here by the theme of reception.
The links open the New International Version (NIV) in Bible Gateway. The texts of this website are original narratives and reflections; they are not literal quotes from that translation.
A MOMENT TO SHARE
